Gardening takes a lot of planning and preparation. You need to make sure that each plant receives the right amount of sunlight, room to grow and will mesh well with the surrounding plants. Easy right? Lets go over some easy gardening tips about the three main groups: Thrillers, Fillers & Spillers.

The Thrillers:

Thrillers, much like the name, are plants that add thrill and drama to your flower containers. These can be either actual flowering plants or grasses. Generally they are placed in the back (if they are tall and can still be seen from one viewpoint. They can also be placed in the middle of your flower container if they are the main focus of the container. Thrillers will add interest to you container, some examples are : Canna Lily, Elephant Ears, Butterfly Argyranthemum, Graceful Grasses, etc. If you are feeling ambitious feel free to add strong vegetable plants as your thrillers i.e. Swiss Chard or Tomatoes. These too will add a “wow” factor to your garden.

The Fillers:

As you might have guessed the fillers are plants that’s main focus are showcase the “Thriller Plants” They revolve around adding complementary colors and shapes that will highlight the main flowers. These also add volume to your pot giving the overall look a more full bundle. Examples of these would be: Impatiens, Begonias and smaller grasses.

The Spillers:

Spillers are the plants that when potted spill over the edge of their containers. This would include trailing flowers and vines. These types of plants can be

viewed from all sides. Spillers are excellent choices to add a viewable flower from all sides of the pot. These could include: Snowstorm® Giant Snowflake®.
